I have been a full-time artist for 5 months now, and I have been creating content on social media for close to 4 months. Gosh, time flies!
Being an artist is about more than creating paintings; it is about how I present myself online, in person, and of course, in the newsletter you are reading right now. There are so many skill sets one needs to have to be a successful artist - the more I learn, the more I realize how much I still need to learn.
I come from a very technical background where the curriculum was set up to teach you how to become a great engineer. Being an artist is so far removed from those teachings. When I chose to become a full-time artist, I tried to prepare myself mentally for a lot of trial and error, but in reality, there is just so much more. But hey, isn’t that what we all do in life? We take one step at a time and figure things out along the way.

How does a mail club work? Every month, I hand-pack my outdoor art adventure into an envelope and send it straight to you.
The first month, "Waterfall in the Barren Land," comes with the earthy feeling of the Earth's mantle. It is about something truly unique in our landscape, the beauty the world offers us, and gratitude for being able to see it with my own eyes.
I flew to the easternmost corner of Canada, passed by colorful villages, got weirded out by the unusual place names (a town named Dildo, a place named Nanny’s Hole, and so on), and headed straight to the other side of the island - to Gros Morne National Park. The painting was completed right there, by the waterfall flowing through the rust-brown rocks.
